What’s Causing Your Sensor Issues?

It is important to regularly test and maintain all system sensors. A low battery or abnormal damage to the sensor can cause irregular activity, including loss of supervision. 

Loss of supervision is an automatic diagnostic the system uses to verify that sensors are wireless communicating properly. 

Other contributing factors that can cause loss of supervision are distance to the panel, large mirrors, large fish tanks, large metal objects, or concrete/mortar barriers and objects
 

Why Am I Seeing “Loss of Supervision”?

This issue usually happens when your sensor is unable to communicate with the panel. Common causes include:

  1. The sensor is too far from the panel or there is signal interference (this is the most common cause)
  2. The sensor battery is low.
  3. The sensor may be faulty.

 Important: Please do not reset your panel during troubleshooting.

Let’s fix your sensor issues

Step 1: Check the Distance.

Let's first make sure the sensors is within range:

  1. Move your panel closer to the affected sensors (about 10-20 feet away). This is only for testing—you don’t need to keep it there permanently.
  2. Test the sensor to reconnect it.
  3. Wait up to 48 hours to see if the issue is resolved.

Step 2: Still seeing same issue?

Try removing and re-adding the sensor:

  1. Remove/Delete the sensor that is programmed from your system. 
  2. Re-add the sensor back to your system/panel. 
  3. Check if it resolves or not and test your sensor. 

Step 3: Replace the Battery

 If the problem still isn't fixed, replace the battery with a new one. 

  1. Remove the battery from the sensor. 
  2. Do not insert the new battery right away, wait for 30 - 40 seconds before inserting the new battery. 
  3. Test the sensor to ensure it reconnects.
